The Great Wall of Frames

September 6, 2008

My home decorating has been an ongoing process, as it is for most people. And there is one area in my house that I've struggled with since I bought my place two years ago -- my stairway. It is an enclosed stairway, with two huge canvases of white stucco walls, and I had no idea what to do with them, until I came across this idea from a Pottery Barn catalog:

Visually, it is beautiful, and design-wise it gives people an opportunity to showcase their cherished photos. Unfortunately, if you have a LOT of wall real estate, like me, you'll need a LOT of photos & a LOT of frames. And frames with mats can cost a pretty penny.

If you are so inclined to copy this great design idea, here are a few inexpensive and chic frames that you can use to adorn any great wall of your choosing.

Maximize Your Potential

The maxi dress is back. But this time around, it is light, flirty and effortless. It's the ultimate summer dress. Wear it to the beach (or pool), slip it off, go for a little dip, get a little sun (remember the spf 30, though), slip it back on, and then head off to a lovely dinner with your girlfriends. Multi-purpose and multi-fabulous -- what a dress!

Swimming Back Into Style

June 5, 2008

Retro-styled swimwear is all the rage this summer. Polka dots, ruffles and modest yet sexy silhouettes are making their way to pre-summer pool parties and bustling beaches. Here are some of this season's retro looks at retro prices.

Luxe for Less

April 29, 2008

It is sometimes easy to tell clothing that is bargain-basement cheap -- the quality of the fabric feels stingy and it looks as though it is held together by a single, thin thread. And I'll admit it -- I often buy on the cheap, knowing it will only last a season and being okay with that.

Beyond clothes, however, seeing cheap is more elusive. More often than not, quirky and unique accessories usually are admired for just that, and any question to their value or longevity is ignored. Here are a few finds that are distinctive but whose price is deceivingly discounted.

L'Homme Chic

March 15, 2008

Since starting this blog, a few people in my personal life frequent it, including a stylish work-friend. However, the other day after my work-friend congratulated me on my blog's one year anniversary, a male co-worker asked what the congratulation was referencing. I casually mentioned my fashion blog. A peppering of questions followed, along with my other male co-worker joining in on the conversation. I felt a little awkward -- I mean, I rarely talked to these guys about my fancy for fashion at bargain prices. Plus what do they care about fashion?

Despite my presumptions, they were interested and brought up the idea of doing a blog post on menswear. So, here I am, doing just that. Menswear is hard, though. I know what I like, but that doesn't mean most men would even dare wear it or "get it!" Plus, there is kind of a limiting style for men: shirt & pants. How can you really make that chic?

Nevertheless, here is my attempt at it. The main outfit is what I call the "insatiably sexy J.Crew look," with the cashmere vest the center-piece "splurge" item, followed by the rest of the look for much less!

And, here's a new twist for this year's blogs -- Every blog post will end with a questions for you, the reader, to offer an answer as you'd like. Question: What style does your man have? And, if you don't have a man, what style would you want your man to have?

Frugal Fashion

April 20, 2007

There are plenty of great places to find clothes at reasonable prices. Obviously, this blog is an attempt at showing you that. However, there are places that are known for their savings, yet often you don't always equate chic fashion with them. A co-worker of mine mentioned that she happened to visit JCPenny's after many years of avoiding it and discovered a great array of extremely affordable and stylish clothes. Another often unexpected place you can find fashion-forward clothes is Target. With the help from designers like Isaac Mizrahi and Proenza Schouler, Target provides shoppers with an opportunity to find their own style at a discount.
